Food and nutrition guidelines

These guidelines are produced by the Department of Health and Children to assist pre-schools in providing healthy food. They also help in creating an environment that promotes positive attitudes to eating and physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Good nutrition and healthy eating habits build a healthy foundation for children. They are relevant to pre-school children aged 0-5 years and are intended as a resource and guide for all relevant stakeholders, which include carers, parents and pre-school inspectors.

Guidelines

The guidelines are divided into sections giving clear and simple information on each relevant subject matter:

Section 1: Children less than one year old

Section 2: Children from 1 to 5 years old

Section 3:

  • Fussy eaters
  • Dental health
  • Food storage and preparation
  • Food and kitchen hygiene

Section 4: Healthy Eating Policy (PDF)
